Bessie Mae
Page
December 16, 1936 – June 21, 2025
Bessie Page was born on December 16, 1936, in Houston, Texas to Blanche and Eddie Lee Usher. She had an older sister, Annice Richards and a fraternal twin, Jessye Johnson. Her early childhood was spent both in Humble and Houston, Texas. They later moved to Baytown to live with their Aunt Della in the McNair community.
Bessie attended George Washington Carver where she was a member of the cheerleading squad and graduated in 1955. After graduation, she attended Franklin Beauty School and went on to work at Sakowitz Beauty Salon. She later met her soon-to-be husband Oscar Page. They married on August 4, 1962 and started their family: Bridgette, Angel (died at birth), identical twin boys (died at birth) Ivy, Tony and Joe. They were blessed with 60 years of marriage before our father passed. Bessie was office manager of the Harris County Water Distirct in McNair for many years and later went on to serve as a board member.
Bessie was a loving Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandma, Great Grandma and second mom to many. She instilled in us the importance of loving the Lord, trusting and believing in his divine goodness, grace and mercy. His light shined brightly through her as she always felt the need to help others regardless of their situation. She had an amazing warm, welcoming smile that made everyone feel at home. It was like a big hug. She had an uncanny ability to remain calm under pressure, the epitome of grace under fire. However, when she had enough, you knew immediately. Through the years, there were countless family members and friends that Mom and Dad opened their doors too. She truly believed in helping others to the best of her ability without judgment or condemnation. She taught us to be respectful, caring, to love others unconditionally and most importantly to be thankful to God in everything we do.
Bessie was the ultimate nurturer; she loved spending time with family and especially her grandchildren. She was very involved in caring for them whether it was school or family-related, she was always there to bridge the gap and provide her unyielding support. Her acts of kindness and understanding from where her blessings came were pillars of strength that set the example of what is meant to display "unconditional love".
Preceding her in death were her parents, Blanche and Eddie Lee, husband, Oscar, daughter Bridgette and sister, Annice.
Bessie is survived by 2 Sons; Travis "Tony" and Clarence "Joe", daughter: Ivy (Robert) and 1 Sister, Jessye Johnson and children. Grandchildren; PJ (Jessica), Jasmine, Jaayla (Meme), Anaya, JoJo, Joshua, Mahogany, Chardae, Ebony and Aisha. Great Grandchildren; Kevorian, Naomi, Trevion (TJ), Brianni, Javion, Royalty, Amari, Kamanii, Ayanna and Kade along with a host of other relatives and friends.
"He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered "Peace be thine. A golden heart stopped beating, Hardworking hands now rest; God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
Forever in our hearts,
Ivy, Tony & Joe
