Derrick "Chef D" Haggerty

On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, our family's world was forever changed when our beloved Derrick R.  Haggerty lost his courageous battle with colon cancer.  Derrick had a big personality with big  dreams, always planning for his next project or adventure. He was an inspiration, motivator and ultimate risk-taker who dared to do things his way.  While cooking was his passion, his ultimate goal was to bring people together which is where his business name was derived–OneLove Foods.

Derrick was born November 5,1974 and was reared in Baytown, Texas. He was part of the Quail Hollow crew of kids who remain lifelong friends.  After attending Pumphrey Elementary and  Gentry Jr. High, he graduated from Ross S. Sterling Class of 1993.  From an early age Derrick excelled in many sports, but football was his passion.  He was a die-hard Tennessee Titans fan.

After a short stint in the U S Navy, Derrick obtained an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York.  After working in a few restaurants, he decided to venture out on his own as a private event chef where he found his niche.

Derrick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leo Sr. and Ethel Dukes Haggerty and Jesse and Tiny Polk Hanson.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Eris P. Haggerty and Zen Haggerty; wife Ludie Mikhaylenko; parents Leo and Francis Haggerty; sister Danyelle (Kenneth) Johnson; Aunt and Godmother, Loretta (Davis) Allen; Aunt, Mary (Lee) Thomas; Uncle, Jack Hanson; many cousins, relatives and friends. Derrick will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
