Kawanji Rosean Thomas, known affectionately as Sean, passed away on May 13, 2026, in Houston, Texas. Born on September 30, 1978, in Baytown, Texas, Sean lived a life devoted not only to his family and community but also to the sport he loved and the young lives he helped shape.
Sean’s early years in Baytown set the foundation for a remarkable journey. He attended North Shore Senior High School, where his talent and dedication in football stood out prominently. His athletic prowess earned him a full-ride scholarship to Alcorn State University, a testament to his hard work and determination. Passionate about understanding the human mind and spirit, Sean later graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in psychology, equipping him with knowledge that enriched both his personal and professional life.
With a heart focused on service, Sean devoted many years to giving back to the youth of his community. His career as a teacher and football coach within Galena Park Independent School District was marked by his unwavering commitment to nurturing and mentoring young people. Through his guidance, he inspired countless students both on and off the field, fostering growth, discipline, and a sense of purpose among those he coached.
Sean’s life was deeply intertwined with his love for football, a passion that transcended a mere pastime and became the essence of his career. His enthusiasm and devotion to the sport were matched only by his dedication to the community he so dearly loved.
He is survived by a loving family who cherish his memory: his mother, Nadine Connie Guide; brothers Patrick Guide II(Evyn), Dexter Thomas, and Ronald Fontemot; and sister Iesha “Precious” Guide. In addition to his immediate family, Sean leaves behind a host of relatives and friends who mourn his loss and celebrate the impact he made on their lives.
Sean was preceded in death by his father, James David Thomas; grandfather, Eugene Thomas; grandmothers, Elvina Thomas and Laura Jane Thomas; and aunts Brenda Thomas and Judy Thomas.
Visitation to honor Sean’s life will take place on May 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Both events will be held at Word of Faith Family Christian Center, located at 9556 Garth Road in Baytown, Texas.
As we remember Sean Rosean Thomas, we celebrate a man whose legacy is defined by his dedication to education, mentorship, and the enduring spirit of community. His contributions will be remembered with respect and gratitude by all who were fortunate to know him.
